12-Minute Principles (Revisited)

We’ve decided to republish it integrally because we believe it can still help as everyone aspires to make things better.

Let’s hope it stirs up the discussion and stimulates you to change the world 12-Minute at a time!

There's more to the 12-Minute Approach than great number 12. Some principles and premises also inspire this revolutionary method.

They are exposed here with some brief explanations:

1-Realize Your Dreams

Having dreams is essential. Dreams give life a meaning. They give you a purpose and a sense of direction.

Planning to realize your dreams is also important. By setting goals and making plans, you’ll move closer to your dreams.

Your unconscious and intuition will guide you thru the venture even if you don’t possess all the details right now.

2-Be Efficient

Being efficient allows us to make our life easier and to accomplish more. Working less but achieving more is always desirable.

Develop your lazy side. Famous inventions and colossal achievements often come from intelligent but somewhat lazy people.

Recognize efficient communication, at it is often the key to success.

3-Avoid Wasting

Avoid wasting of any kind. These days, thinking green is a given for more and more people.

But, to improve your life, also do your best to avoid wasting time, money and precious energy. In everything you accomplish, always strive to Achieve More with Less.

4-Built on the Good

Build on your strengths and invest in your passions; motivation will come easier.

Everybody has some good basis. Even the worst crook has some good in him. Look for the bright side of people and give them a chance to redeem themselves.

We can always build on the positive, as small as it can be.

5-Think Simple

Look for simple and obvious solutions. It’s often a good idea to simply use common sense.

Try to point out the obvious; some people just don’t see the evident solution looming right in front of them.

Simple things frequently work with efficiency.

6-Everyone is Unique and Special

Nobody is like you are. Every human being is unique and special.

Everyone is also different. So everyone has different qualities, different goals, different ideas and different solutions.

The best solution for you may not even be possible for your neighbor.  But remember that you can still inspire others.

Nobody’s perfect but everyone can improve. You can make your grass greener.  There’s always room for some improvement. And you’re the best person to know what’s best for you.

7-Improve for the Common Good

We can also make everybody's grass greener.  Over time, we are evolving into something greater and better; even if we sometimes go sideways or take steps backwards.

Honesty and good intentions always pay in the long run. When you’re honest to yourself and others, that your intentions are pure, it will benefit everyone. In the long run, people who devote themselves to others in a noble way are always greatly rewarded.

Taking the high road will also bring you total piece of mind.

8-Take Small Simple Steps

You need to concentrate on specific points you want to improve. Evolution requires efficiency and time. Too many changes at the same time will probably result in no improvement at all.

Several small simple steps are easier and more motivating to take. Break down your activities and projects as much as needed. With time, you’ll find the proportions that best work for you.

9-Do Something Different

Also work on your weaknesses. In small doses, even explore your opposite; learn and grow with these new experiences.

Be creative and look for alternatives avenues; variations are sometimes less boring and can be more efficient.

Extraordinary people usually don’t follow the crowd; but they try to be open-minded and to inspire others.

10-Stay Focused

There’s an optimal period we can maintain concentration and focus; long enough to get something done but not too long to loose effectiveness.

We have to put ourselves in the right conditions to concentrate and be productive. Taking breaks and relaxing will help you stay focused.

11-Do the Right Changes

Some changes will have a bigger effect than others.

From Pareto's principle or the 80-20 rule: roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. You will have better results working on the right problems or causes.

The right changes will thus have a more important and motivating impact. Don’t waste your time working on futile problems.

Focus on small simple changes that have a huge impact.

12-Go the Extra Mile

Always accomplish just a little bit more. Every time you have a chance, take an extra step; your results will be extraordinary.

Develop the habit of doing just a little bit more than what you planned for. Be confident that by working effectively, every small step will get you closer to your dreams.

Little actions each day can get you a long way.
